947 expired registration citations issued during weeklong enforcement period

DENVER — Front Range police agencies issued 947 expired license plate citations during a weeklong targeted enforcement period last month, according to data released by the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Eight Front Range law enforcement agencies participated in the focused enforcement period, which ran from April 20-26. The goal was to target expired vehicle registration and unregistered vehicle violations.

Colorado Springs police said the combined efforts of these eight agencies resulted in 947 expired license plate citations being issued. An additional 43 vehicles with license plate registrations expired longer than 12 months were impounded. Police said 167 drivers were cited for not having a current driver’s license, and 15 misused or fake license plates were confiscated.
