DENVER (KDVR) — Last week, FOX31 reported on a public survey, asking if police should be able to impound cars involved in street racing without identifying the driver. Today, FOX31 is digging deeper into the legal concept, speaking with an expert who ran a program in Denver that allows the city to impound cars in these types of crimes.
“A criminal action is intended to punish the driver of the vehicle, the person committing the crime,” Kory Nelson said. “The civil remedy is designed to address the tool involved in facilitating the crime or being used to commit the crime.”
