Wolf activity detected in watershed that’s part of Denver metro area

The most recent version of the ‘collared wolf activity map’ that gets released monthly by Colorado Parks and Wildlife shows that the species has been roaming quite close to the Denver metro area.

This month’s map depicts wolf activity from May 27 through June 24, with it important to note that it’s based on what watersheds wolves were in – just because a watershed is highlighted, it doesn’t mean the species was present in the entire watershed nor that it is still there.

The aforementioned detail is crucial to mention, as one watershed where at least one wolf was present reaches into the heavily-populated Lakewood area, just south of downtown Denver. While this might not mean wolves are roaming the Mile High City, this appears to be closest they’ve gotten to Colorado’s capital thus far…
