Thornton police arrest 18-year-old on suspicion of vehicular homicide

Thornton police arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on March 20.

David Yovany Mendez-Reyes was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide charges including driving under the influence and reckless driving in connection with a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a 35-year-old man at the intersection of East 120th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard in Thornton, according to a Thornton Police Department news release.

In the investigation, police determined Mendez-Reyes — who was driving a Toyota Corolla eastbound on 120th Avenue — ran a red light, crashing into the passenger side of an Acura TL driven by the motorist who was killed, which was turning southbound, according to the release…
