DENVER (KDVR) — Fireworks are illegal in Colorado for a reason, and while they can be dangerous and spark fires, emergency dispatchers ask the public not to call 911 to report them.
Unless the fireworks are a threat to safety or there is an emergency like a fire, law enforcement agencies are reminding Coloradans to report illegal fireworks properly so as not to overwhelm dispatch lines for urgent emergencies.

Some laws vary by jurisdiction, but all fireworks that explode or leave the ground are illegal in the state. Colorado law only allows fireworks that do not contain more than 50 milligrams of explosive composition. Exceptions are for professional displays and those with proper certifications.
