Lovers of Mexican food in Colorado were shocked in February of 2025, when almost every Del Taco in the state were shut down. After nearly six months, it looks like things have turned around.
All But One Del Taco Are Reopening Because It Wasn’t Ever Closed
The folks in Grand Junction didn’t have to fret over whether or not their Del Taco would ever reopen, because it was the only one that didn’t close. That Del Taco was owned by a different franchisee, so it was unaffected.
Del Taco dates back to 1964 when they first opened in California selling tacos for just $.19 and cheeseburgers for only $.24. By 2025, they were owned by Jack-in-the-Box and had 500 locations across the U.S.
When we all heard about the majority of Del Tacos in Colorado shutting their doors with no notice, it felt like we’d never have another Epic Burrito, again. Sure, they’re not as popular as Taco Bell, but they have their own vibe and tasty food. It’s good that they really aren’t gone forever.
How Many Del Tacos Are Reopening in Colorado?
I received a text from a buddy on Saturday, June 21, letting me know that it looked like the Firestone Del Taco was getting ready to reopen, adding that his wife heard that the one in Lone Tree was being readied, as well. On Sunday the 22nd, I drove over to the Firestone location, and yes, indeed, they were busy getting ready for a new start.
