Denver man found with nearly 100K fentanyl pills sentenced to 48 years in prison

DENVER (KDVR) — A Denver man who was pulled over with nearly 100,000 fentanyl pills, five pounds of cocaine and more than two and a half pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle was sentenced to 48 years in prison on Monday.

The man, identified as Miguel Gutierrez-Heredia, was pulled over by Colorado State Troopers in March 2024 in Fruita for going 93 mph in a 75 mph speed zone. He was already under investigation for drug trafficking at the time of the traffic stop, according to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities had been tracking Gutierrez-Heredia’s whereabouts, according to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, which said investigators concluded he had gone to California to pick up narcotics that would eventually be distributed to Denver and Northern Colorado.

“At the time of this interception, this was one of the biggest fentanyl busts in the state,” said Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Pirraglia, in a statement. “Because of the incredible work from our partners in law enforcement, they were able to stop that poison from making its way to our community.”

Gutierrez-Heredia pled guilty in May to one count of conspiracy to sell or distribute fentanyl, more than 50 grams, one count of special offender – introducing or importing to the state of Colorado and one count of possession with intent to sell or distribute methamphetamine, more than 14 grams but less than 225 grams…
