Man sentenced to 40 years for 2022 killing of good Samaritan in La Alma-Lincoln Park

DENVER (KDVR) — A man was sentenced to spend 40 years in prison on Friday for shooting and killing a good Samaritan who was trying to break up a fight in La Alma-Lincoln Park in 2022.

Trahavonie Smith was convicted by a jury earlier this year of second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a large capacity magazine.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office said Smith shot and killed 63-year-old Garry Arellano at La Alma-Lincoln Park on April 27, 2022.

Arellano tried to break up a fight between two teenage girls near the outfield fence of the baseball field, and Smith shot and killed him because one of the girls was Smith’s girlfriend…
