Denver leader of large-scale drug-trafficking organization sentenced to 30 years in prison

DENVER (KDVR) — A Denver man who was convicted earlier this year by a federal jury for his part in a large-scale drug-trafficking organization was sentenced Thursday.

Leonard Medina, 46, of Denver, was sentenced to 360 months in federal prison after he was found guilty in April on several charges, including conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, and distribution and possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to information released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, trial evidence showed that the Denver Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations learned that Medina had operated a large-scale drug-trafficking organization in Colorado.

Wiretaps, undercover purchases, physical surveillance, analysis of financial records, electronic surveillance and other enforcement actions were taken to demonstrate that Medina supplied bulk methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine to lower-level dealers in Denver and Colorado Springs during 2021 and 2022…
