Man arrested in Commerce City for allegedly pointing laser at commercial airplanes

DENVER (KDVR) — A man was arrested in Commerce City Thursday night after Colorado State Patrol says he was pointing a green laser at commercial airplanes.

CSP said its aircraft unit located and arrested the man, identified as Jose Alonzo Duarte-Campos, 41, on East 64th Avenue and Monaco Street after it overheard “multiple” commercial airline pilots reporting a green laser being directed into the cockpits of their aircrafts.

The agency said its aircraft unit, while surveilling Duarte-Campos, saw him allegedly pointing the laser at it multiple times. The aircraft unit was then able to direct ground troopers to the suspect as he was attempting to drive to a new location, CSP said.

Duarte-Campos is facing a felony charge of unlawfully aiming a laser device at an aircraft, a misdemeanor offense of driving under the influence of drugs and a charge of possession of methamphetamine, according to CSP…
