Denver breaks nearly 150-year-old daily rain record by almost double

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver got some needed moisture over the weekend, breaking a daily rainfall record that had held up for nearly 150 years.

On Sunday, the National Weather Service issued several weather watches and warnings for wind, hail and rain, especially in northern Colorado. There were even flood advisories issued in Weld and Larimer counties.

The weather conditions impacted the Denver International Airport, where the city’s official weather records are taken. Over 1,000 flights were delayed and nearly 70 were canceled.

Throughout the day, nearly an inch and a half of rain fell at DIA, breaking the previous record by almost double. According to the NWS, 1.43 inches of rain accumulated at DIA, far surpassing the previous record for Aug. 10 of 0.75 inches set in 1878…
