Aurora police say crime is trending downwards due in part to new pursuit policies

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — A car chase in Aurora was caught on camera over the weekend, and police say it was possible thanks to new policies they say are reducing crime in the city.

That pursuit kicked off early Sunday morning just before 5 o’clock near East Colfax Avenue and Ironton Street. Officers attempted a traffic stop believing the vehicle was stolen because it had no license plates, but it sped off.

Not far down the road, officers were in place to put down stop sticks to deflate the vehicle’s tires. Agent Matthew Longshore says this is something they don’t usually have the right situation to put into practice.

“We get, you know, familiar doing that in the academy. It’s not often, though, you’re able to do that in real life,” he said…
