Body camera footage: Father sues Aurora officers for unconstitutional use of force

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — A family is suing several Aurora Police officers for unconstitutional use of force after body camera footage shows them pointing guns at a father, tasing him with his child in the car.

Body camera footage shows Aurora police officers pulling up to a Walmart parking lot in May of 2024. An officer is seen walking up to the scene with two patrol cars parked in front of and behind LaDarius Butler’s car.

One officer is seen pointing a gun through an open door and window at the man in his front seat, with his door open. You can hear the man asking the police what they are doing a number of times throughout the recording.

“He was unarmed,” Civil rights attorney Tyler Jolly said. “He was non-threatening to the officers. He did not make any attempt to strike or threaten or really anything towards these officers and ended up tasered in front of his partner and his young children anyway.”…
