El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder took to the internet to denounce what he portrayed as misleading narratives funneling through the media circuits concerning a recent narcotics operation in Denver. The statement came as a response to a DEA search warrant execution involving his office, in an operation Sheriff Elder insisted had roots in El Paso County and was solely concerned with drug enforcement, not immigration enforcement.
The Sheriff’s Office’s proclaimed intent was crystal clear: to aid in dismantling a large-scale drug trafficking scheme. Yet, some publications seemed determined to at once grasp and twist this narrative, suggesting the operation had an ICE component or was an immigration raid, a notion Sheriff Elder vehemently refused, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
“Their persistent spread of misinformation and distortion of our work is reckless, misleading, and a disservice to Coloradans,” said Elder, as per the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. He further clarified his office’s participation in the effort, stating, “As with the illegal nightclub operation in April, my deputies were working alongside federal law enforcement in targeting individuals who are actively engaged in serious criminal activity, endangering our community.”…
