Fight, gunfire at North High School leads to arrest, safety changes

DENVER — North High School is increasing security and asking for parent volunteers after a fight in the school’s parking lot ended with a gun being fired last weekend.

Principal German Echevarria told families in a letter this week that the incident happened Saturday, Aug. 30. No injuries were reported, and Denver Police have since arrested a suspect accused of firing the weapon. Detectives are pursuing charges against others involved in the altercation.

Students and families were on campus for a junior varsity soccer game on a field outside the school when they heard the gunshot. Others were inside the school for a pancake breakfast fundraiser and also heard gunfire…
