GOLDEN, Colo. — One of two men convicted in the 2023 killing of a Wheat Ridge jewelry shop owner received a life sentence Wednesday.
On Aug. 6, a jury found Charles Shay guilty on 11 counts:
- First-degree murder
- Second-degree felony murder
- Kidnapping/robbery
- Second-degree kidnapping with a weapon
- Aggravated robbery
- Robbery
- Second-degree motor vehicle theft
- Second degree arson
- Tampering with evidence
- Motor vehicle theft
- Burglary
His trial began July 25 related to the killing of Peter Arguello, who was shot and killed at his business in the 7200 block of West 38th Avenue on Nov. 29, 2023. According to court documents, the front business door is locked, and customers have to be buzzed inside.
On the day he was killed, video shows Arguello walking to the front door and letting a man inside. Once inside, the man appears to be looking at stuff at the counter and then pulls a gun on Arguello and forces him to the rear of the store. That person was later identified as Shay…
