DENVER (KDVR) — A former park ranger at Staunton State Park was terminated from his position after allegedly stabbing himself as part of what police are calling an “elaborate hoax” that led to a widespread manhunt.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced Wednesday morning that 26-year-old Callum Heskett, a seasonal ranger for CPW, was officially fired from his job as of Aug. 22.

“The temporary employee did not meet the standards of CPW or the public’s expectations of state employees,” CPW said in its announcement.
The alleged stabbing was reported at about 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 19 when Heskett radioed for help, alleging he had been attacked and stabbed. He also reported that the alleged attacker fled the scene on foot and was able to give law enforcement a detailed description of the suspect…
