‘Work on his demons’: Judge lets ‘high risk’ man who strangled fiancee over cheating fears ‘walk’ free on probation instead of jail

Local prosecutors have condemned a Colorado judge for giving a 31-year-old man convicted of “violently assaulting” and stalking his former fiancee a slap on the wrist in the form of probation, rather than prison time, so he can “work on his demons” and mental health.

“This is a second betrayal,” 25-year-old victim Aubrey Cadwell said in a statement released by the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office last Thursday after Taylor Burrows’ controversial sentencing.

“First by the man who hurt me, and now by a legal system that was supposed to protect me,” Cadwell said. “I trusted this judge to make a fair decision, and she chose to ignore evidence, and to endanger the public, and to endanger me and my family. There is no justice.”…
