DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado transportation officials are hoping that free car seat checks and training will help reduce the number of improperly installed or used car seats.
CDOT said that last year, nearly 75% of car seats in Colorado were either installed or used incorrectly, and that car crashes remain one of the leading causes of injury and death for children.

To help fight that trend, the Colorado Department of Transportation hosted an event on Wednesday at Denver’s Central Park Recreation Center to bring free car seat checks to Denver metro residents. The event was held in collaboration with Car Seats Colorado, WeeCycle and AAA.
“According to safety data, correctly using a car or booster seat can mean the difference between life and death for children in a crash,” said CDOT’s Executive Director Shoshana Lew in a press release. “No parent wants to get it wrong, but many simply don’t know what is required. We are committed to making sure caregivers have the knowledge and tools to protect their children every time they are traveling on the road.”…
