Suspect Charged in Brazen Denver Copper Wire Heist, Methamphetamine Found on Scene

In a recent incident reminiscent of a bygone era’s heist schemes, Denver has witnessed a caper involving a significant amount of copper wire. According to the Denver Police Department, on September 19, officers were called to a scene where an individual had allegedly been caught in the act of dismantling public property for copper.

The incident took place on the 2200 block of W. 48th Avenue, close to the I-70, where a suspect had removed approximately 40 pounds of copper wire, suspected to be stolen from a nearby construction site. Witnesses recounted the individual’s risky maneuvers, involving running across the highway multiple times and narrowly escaping oncoming traffic. Aside from the theft of copper, authorities also suspect the culprit of causing damage to a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) variable message board, presumably in search of more valuable copper components…
