Thornton to install red light cameras at pair of intersections

DENVER (KDVR) — Red light cameras are set to be installed by the end of the year at a pair of intersections in Thornton.

The Thornton Police Department said Thursday that the cameras will face all directions at the intersections of East 88th Avenue and Washington Street, and East 120th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.

In addition to the red light cameras, two mobile speed vehicles will be placed at various “high-risk” locations in the city, police said.

“Speeding and red-light violations are two of the most common causes of serious crashes,” police Chief Jim Baird said in a statement. “If these cameras make drivers slow down or think twice, they’re doing what they’re meant to do.”…
