Jefferson County Public Schools’ top safety official has acknowledged that live ammunition discovered at Evergreen High School in September 2024 “did not feel like it was treated with the seriousness it deserved,” and that the school operated without a full-time School Resource Officer before the Sept. 10 shooting.
In a letter to families on Oct. 8, Executive Director of School Safety Jeff Pierson addressed both issues, calling the lack of an SRO a “gap in service and support” that “should not have happened.”
“In light of recent events, what once seemed isolated now feels part of a larger concern,” Pierson said. “I hear that, and I am committed to learning from it.”…
