Dozens of people grocery shop for their neighbors as SNAP benefit delay continues

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Food assistance in Colorado continues to be delayed as the legal battle over federal SNAP funds drags on, leaving hundreds of thousands of Coloradans in limbo.

Last week, about 32,000 Coloradans received their SNAP benefits before the U.S. Supreme Court halted the rollout of additional payments. The ongoing legal dispute and resulting confusion for recipients, however, haven’t stopped a group of neighbors in the Denver metro area from stepping up to help families in need.

When Denver resident Terri Oliver heads to the grocery store for her own family, she picks up a few extra items for a single mother who lives nearby.

“I thought I have a little bit that I can give, and why shouldn’t I try to help just a little bit?” Oliver said. “I said, Hey, what are your favorites? What do you need? So she kind of just gave me a list. It was pretty simple.”…
