Englewood Police chief didn’t wait for criminal investigation before firing officer accused of chokehold

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The criminal investigation into an Englewood Police officer’s suspected use of an illegal chokehold was still ongoing when the department’s chief fired him, according to documents obtained by 9NEWS Investigates.

Records show that Police Chief David Jackson notified the officer, Ryan Vasina, on Oct. 31 that he was being terminated following a “review of conduct.” At the time, Vasina was on probation because he was several weeks away from completing a year with the department.

That same day, investigators with the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office were still interviewing the man whom Vasina was accused of shooting with a Taser and putting in a chokehold after a traffic stop…
