Arrest made after woman shot in the head during apparent Hwy 285 road rage incident

DENVER (KDVR) — A 56-year-old man is under arrest in connection with an apparent road rage situation that sent a woman to the hospital in critical condition after she was shot in the head.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said that it had arrested Matthew Impellitteri, 56, on two counts of criminal attempt of first-degree murder after deliberation and two counts of criminal attempt of first-degree murder – extreme indifference.

The shooting happened Tuesday night on Highway 285 near Settlers Drive. Deputies responded to the area at about 7 p.m. for a report of a crash involving a back SUV. Later, the call was updated to a road-rage, shots-fired incident after finding the SUV’s passenger had been shot in the head.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office said that it had identified Impellitteri as a potential suspect “shortly after the incident,” but required more information to arrest him. He was arrested at his home in the 8400 block of Highway 285, “very close to where the incident took place.”…
