Suspect in Boulder County trailhead carjacking linked to Denver domestic violence incident

DENVER (KDVR) — A man is in police custody after reports of an armed carjacking at the Caribou Townsite trailhead on Sunday afternoon, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday.

Andres Camilo Angarita Olaya, 24, was arrested Monday on a Boulder County arrest warrant and is facing charges of kidnapping, sexual assault, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree motor vehicle theft, second-degree assault – strangulation, vehicular eluding, third-degree attempted motor vehicle theft and two counts of animal cruelty.

The trailhead has a Nederland address, but is located further west in Boulder County. Deputies were informed that the Sunday afternoon carjacking involved a knife and stemmed from a domestic violence incident in Denver.

The agency said that deputies learned Olaya allegedly kidnapped a victim and drove her to the Caribou Trailhead. Once there, the suspect stepped away from the vehicle, and the victim was able to escape. She asked for help from other people in the parking lot, the agency reported…
