Man faces 10 charges including attempted murder in Hwy 285 road rage shooting

DENVER (KDVR) — Charges, including multiple counts for attempted murder, have been filed against a man accused of shooting a woman in the head during a road rage incident on Highway 285 earlier this month.

Matthew Impellitteri, 56, remains behind bars on a $1 million bond after he allegedly shot a 38-year-old woman in the passenger seat of another vehicle on Nov. 11. The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office has filed 10 charges against Impellitteri, including:

  • Criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree (F2)
  • Criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree – extreme difference (F2)
  • Criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree (F2)
  • Criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree – extreme difference (F2)
  • Assault in the first degree (F3)
  • Assault in the first degree – extreme indifference (F3)
  • Illegal discharge of a firearm (F5)
  • Tampering with physical evidence (F6)
  • Crime of violence (SE)
  • Crime of violence (SE)

The district attorney’s office said he waived formal advisement of charges on Thursday morning, and the next hearing is set for Dec. 20.

Affidavit: Road rage incident led to woman shot in head on Hwy 285

On Monday, a spokesperson for the district attorney’s office told FOX31 that the woman who was shot, Kassi Moi, remained in critical condition in the ICU after an emergency surgery. Her family is preparing for a long recovery that will require extensive medical care and rehabilitation, and a GoFundMe has been set up to help with her recovery.

Impellitteri’s arrest affidavit, obtained by FOX31, details the victim vehicle driver’s account of what happened. The driver told investigators that he had been drinking and driving before he got on U.S. 285, where he used the right lane to drive past two cars in the left lane, one of which was the suspect vehicle…
