Overdoses surging inside Denver’s jail, similar to national trends

DENVER — Fentanyl and other drug addictions continue to challenge jail and medical staff this year as more people are using and dying of the drug inside the city’s jail system.

A recent report by the Office of the Independent Monitor (OIM) indicates there has been a “surge” of overdoses, which Sheriff Elias Diggins acknowledged during an interview with 9NEWS.

“Absolutely, there is a surge going on in the nation, and the jail is ground zero in the war against drugs, in the war against fentanyl,” Diggins said…
