Parolee charged with 2 deaths in Aurora now charged in homicide inside Denver jail

DENVER — A parolee who is charged in the stabbing deaths of two people in Aurora in June is now facing a murder charge in connection with a death that took place inside the Denver jail the next day, prosecutors said.

Denver prosecutors told 9NEWS they’ve filed a first-degree murder charge against Ricky Roybal-Smith in connection with the death of Vincent Chacon.

Aurora Police investigators believe Roybal-Smith, early in the morning on June 29, fatally stabbed two unhoused men, Jesse Shafer and Scott Davenport, within an hour of one another near Peoria Street and East Colfax Avenue. Hours later, Denver Police officers arrested Roybal-Smith after they said he was involved in a hit-and-run involving two pedestrians near Galapago Street and West 9th Avenue.
