Aurora Police chief says deadly chase lasted no more than 45 seconds before car slammed into pole

AURORA, Colo. — An Aurora Police chase that ended in a deadly crash lasted no more than 45 seconds – and it appears officers followed the department’s recently revised pursuit policy, Police Chief Todd Chamberlain said Wednesday.

Chamberlain updated the police department’s pursuit policy last spring, which allows officers to go after fleeing suspects in cases involving stolen cars, guns and drunken driving.

“The reason for that is because if a vehicle was stolen, which is a felony offense, an officer would get behind that vehicle, verify that it was a stolen car, activate their emergency lights – and all the person had to do at that time – before March the 5th – was press the accelerator and drive away,” Chamberlain told 9NEWS. “That’s troubling.”…
