An off-duty Denver police officer was taken into custody for allegedly driving 102 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone and then failing to stop when a Colorado State Patrol trooper attempted a traffic stop.
According to a report from Colorado State Patrol, the situation started to unfold at about 11:27 p.m. on the night of October 24, with an arrest taking place related to the case last Friday. On the night of the incident, a state trooper on Highway 58 near mile marker 4 in Jefferson County observed a white Dodge Ram traveling at a high rate of speed, clocked at 102 miles per hour – 37 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 65. The trooper was able to catch up with the truck on eastbound I-70, then estimating its speed at 90 miles per hour in another 65 mph zone.
When the trooper maneuvered to a position behind the truck, the truck reportedly “accelerated aggressively.” There was a brief pursuit, though it was discontinued due to safety concerns as speeds exceeded 100 miles per hour amid moderate Interstate traffic…
