Man chokes his girlfriend to death on Amtrak train while her kids sleep next to her

A Colorado man was found guilty on Friday of murdering his girlfriend on an Amtrak train as they traveled across the country over 9 years ago.

Angelo Valentino Mantych, 43, was convicted of first-degree murder last week by a Colorado jury for the Sept. 1, 2016, murder of Marina Placensia, 28, on an Amtrak train from Wisconsin to Denver.

The day of the murder, the couple was moving out of Racine, Wisconsin, to Denver with their four children, who were reportedly sleeping nearby at the time of the murder. Authorities said Placensia was found unconscious when they arrived at Denver Union Station.

Mantych said he noticed something was wrong after trying to wake her up from her nap on the train 10 minutes before arrival and getting no response. He said he initially didn’t find her unresponsiveness out of the ordinary, given that she was a “heavy sleeper.”…
