DENVER (KDVR) — Denver’s mayor has a pitch to last-minute holiday shoppers: come spend your money on the newly renovated 16th Street.
“You just see a lot more life [down here]. Even on a windy day like this,” Mayor Mike Johnston joked as he walked into wind gusts blowing near 16th Street and Glenarm Place.
Mayor Johnston tells FOX31 that 65 new retail businesses have opened this year on 16th Street after a three-year, $175 million facelift. And while the outdoor pedestrian shopping mall is gleaming with new storefronts and fresh shoppers, the mayor concedes there is still an uphill battle convincing some business owners to open up shop.
