While at least one survey has shown that 90 percent of Americans think tipping culture “has gotten out of control,” voluntarily adding to the bill for a meal or service remains a customary act in the United States. Granted, how much that tip might be can vary greatly – roughly 57% of Americans say they’ll tip 15% for the average meal at a sit-down restaurant while some claim that if service is as expected, 20% is the minimum that a tip should be.
A recent report on how tipping amounts can vary by location that was published by Food & Wine pins Denver as being home to the people who tip the most nationwide.
