Why aren’t more power lines buried in Colorado?

GOLDEN, Colo. (KDVR) — With many Coloradans still in the dark Friday evening, some have been asking why Xcel Energy is shutting off power and why aren’t more power lines buried underground here in Colorado? Experts say it is easier said than done.

Most businesses in Golden closed up shop Friday, but Troy at the Loaf N’ Jug on Warner Drive was prepping his building and preparing to keep doors open however he could.

However, that does not mean the power shut-off isn’t inconvenient or potentially costly.

“Our last one ended up in a tree. I’m going to bring her down and her put her away from the wind storm,” said Troy. “Businesses are losing, we are losing probably $1,000 in deli sandwiches and burritos, stuff like that. There’s just no way we can keep it cool. It sure seems like there should be a different solution because you know I don’t how it’s going to happen or what’s going to happen but someone is going to have to be responsible for all the lost products.”…
