Man arrested on suspicion of DUI after fatal car crash in Brighton on U.S. 85

A man was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence after he killed one and hospitalized several others in a vehicle crash on U.S. 85 in Brighton on Saturday night.

Erik Diaz Olivas, 20, was arrested and booked into the Weld County Jail in connection with charges of a DUI, vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, not wearing a seatbelt and possession of alcohol under the age of 21, according to a Sunday news release from the Brighton Police Department.

Olivas was driving a Ford SUV on Weld County Road 2.5 around 12:30 a.m., Sunday and ran the stop sign at U.S. Highway 85, hitting a GMC SUV driving northbound, according to the release. Two people inside the Ford were thrown from the car; the other two ran away from the scene on foot…
