Did you know? Denver sunrises are still getting later, even after the winter solstice

DENVER (KDVR) — The shortest day of the year already passed, but in Denver, the sunrises are still getting later.

The winter solstice, also known as the shortest day of the year, was on Dec. 21, when there were only 9 hours and 21 minutes of daylight. On that day, Time and Date recorded the sun rising at 7:17 a.m. and setting at 4:38 p.m. From there, daylight has been getting longer in Denver.

Denver weather: Partly sunny and mild

However, while the solstice was the shortest day of the year, the late sunrises aren’t over just yet.

From Jan. 1 through Jan. 8, the sun rises at 7:21 a.m.

When will days start getting longer?

These aren’t even the latest sunrises. The sun rose at 7:29 a.m. on Nov. 1, 2025, right before the clocks were changed back an hour, and it will rise at 7:22 a.m. on March 8, right after the clocks shift for daylight saving time…
