Suspected DUI driver removed vehicle’s installed breathalyzer before crash: Police

DENVER (KDVR) — A driver accused of driving under the influence has been arrested after Lakewood police say he ripped out an ignition interlock device from his car before being involved in a two-vehicle crash.

The Lakewood Police Department said on Thursday officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at West Kentucky Avenue and South Reed Street.

At the scene, police shortly realized one of the drivers was intoxicated, according to the department.

At that time, police said a records check showed the driver had multiple prior DUI arrests, along with a court order to install an ignition interlock device in his vehicle. The devices are breathalyzers that require the driver to have a blood alcohol concentration below a certain limit to be able to start he vehicle…
