The United States Secret Service was in Colorado recently, and not for presidential matters either. According to KDVR, the federal law enforcement agency was investigating financial crime acts that were taking place in the state.
The United States Secret Service has a team of experts that is trained to find credit card skimming devices. These devices can be used to drain bank accounts and EBT accounts of unsuspecting victims quickly.
Secret Service Investigates Financial Crimes in Colorado
Skimming devices are now so advanced that they can go undetected by many, unlike previous versions of the devices. The United States Secret Service works with the USDA Office of the Inspector General, Homeland Security Investigations, General Services Administration Office of Inspector General, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to check over 2,700 card readers at different businesses in the Denver Area.
Some of the many card readers that were looked into included gas pumps, credit card machines inside stores, and ATMs. The sweep resulted in 19 credit card skimmers being found at businesses around the Denver Metro Area.
