Pre-evacuation notice given amid active fire near Hwy 93, 72 in Arvada

DENVER (KDVR) — A pre-evacuation notice for the Candelas community in Arvada has been issued due to a vegetation fire that ignited near the intersection of Highway 93 and Highway 72.

As of 10:03 a.m., Arvada Fire said the fire was 20 to 30 acres in size and 80% contained and that crews were currently “working on mop up and full containment.” In a 10:41 a.m. update, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said a rough estimate for the fire is now more than 100 acres.

Arvada Fire initially said at 8:46 a.m. that itself and Coal Creek Canyon Fire were responding to a “small” vegetation fire but, in an update less than 20 minutes later, warned the fire was “growing quickly in size” due to breezy conditions and dry vegetation…
