Pope accepts Denver archbishop’s retirement, new archbishop named

DENVER — Pope Leo XIV has accepted Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila’s retirement request and has announced that James R. Golka, the bishop of the Diocese of Colorado Springs, will become the new archbishop for the Archdiocese of Denver.

Aquila put in his retirement request to the pope in September on his 75th birthday, as required under canon law.
