Georgia man gets probation for role in stealing $850K by scamming Lafayette’s Chamber of Commerce

A Georgia man was sentenced last month to 10 years of probation for his role in a 2023 scam that cost Lafayette’s Chamber of Commerce and its former executive director $508,725. The scammers also used the chamber’s bank account to illegally access funds from U.S. Treasury checks worth $343,678.34, totaling $852,403.34 stolen.

Dominique Haywood, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering on Jan. 7, according to online court records. One count of money laundering, one count of theft between $20,000 and $100,000 and one count of cybercrime to defraud between $20,000 and $100,000 were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
