Man accused of murdering his girlfriend in Broomfield shooting incident also charged with fraud

Gregory Miles, accused of murdering his girlfriend and endangering officers and civilians in a shooting incident in Broomfield in 2024, also has been charged with insurance fraud and false reporting to authorities, according to a court document.

Miles, now 35, was charged with first-degree murder and 22 counts of attempted first-degree murder in a shooting incident Sept. 12, 2024, with police at the Arista Flats apartment complex in Broomfield. While investigating, authorities observed text messages between Miles and a family member indicating they conspired to stage a reported burglary for the purpose of filing a fraudulent renters’ insurance claim, according to an arrest affidavit.

On Sept. 1, 2024, officers had responded to a burglary report at an apartment in the Arista Flats complex, which was referred to as Miles’ family member’s, according to the affidavit. The family member pointed out damage to the balcony door and reported that electronics, jewelry and a designer bag had been stolen, estimating losses at “$4,000-$5,000,” according to the affidavit…
