Colorado boy found safe after alleged kidnapping by father

A 4-year-old boy who suffers from medical impairment and requires medication was forcibly taken from his home in Commerce City around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon. He was found safe later that night, and his father arrested.

State authorities issued an Amber Alert during the boy’s disappearance. The alert was rescinded after he was recovered.

The boy’s father, 45-year-old Jeremy Chavez, was taken into custody after barricading himself in a home. He faces charges including 2nd Degree Burglary, Child Abuse, Reckless Endangerment, 2nd Degree Kidnapping, Vehicular Eluding, and 2nd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft.

After the alleged kidnapping, Commerce City Police Department officers located a stolen pickup truck that Chavez was last seen driving. Officers and a SWAT team then surrounded a home in the 10800 block of Jasper Street, east of Chambers Road.
