Behind big ICE raid, records reveal agents were trying to find a suspect they initially refused to pick up at jail

AURORA, Colo. — The sight of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents wearing helmets and camouflage while surrounding an apartment complex in this city made national news in early 2025. Now, public records obtained by 9NEWS reveal the man they were looking for could have been picked up at a jail before the big raid.

The raid occurred on Feb. 5, 2025 at the Edge at Lowry apartment complex, which investigators said was a safe haven for Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang members.

On the day of the raid, an ICE agent can be seen in a video posted to agency’s X account saying “Unfortunately we have to come to the communities because we don’t get the cooperation from the jails.”…
