Timing, totals, impact of Friday snowstorm across Colorado

DENVER (KDVR) — After more unseasonably warm weather in the 60s, another storm expected to bring several inches of snow is heading into Colorado.

Despite the warm weather in Denver, Colorado is finally starting to see some snow. By the end of February, some areas across the state saw over 2 feet of snow, and more is on the way at the start of March. While it was in the 60s this week, that is going to change by Friday.

Denver weather: More sunshine Wednesday before Friday snow

The Pinpoint Weather team is expecting colder temperatures and a chance of measurable snow on Friday. Here’s everything you need to know:

Timing

It’s in the 60s on Wednesday and nearing 70 degrees on Thursday, but the precipitation is already starting in the metro area and Front Range by mid-morning Friday. The Pinpoint Weather team said precipitation will last through the evening and end by midnight.

While it’s too warm for snow in Denver to fully stick, the heaviest precipitation will be along Interstate 25 at night, with some slushy spots in Denver and north on Wednesday. The Pinpoint Weather team said the Palmer Divide is cooler and could see some light accumulation.

The storm will move into the mountains on Thursday night and arrive in the metro by mid-morning Friday with on-and-off snow throughout the day.

Totals

Several inches of snow are expected to fall, but the Pinpoint Weather team said confidence for accumulation along the I-25 corridor is low since there could be melting. Ground temperatures are above freezing, helping to melt most of the first flakes. While Denver could see some snow, it will be around 70 degrees on Thursday, and could melt before accumulating.

Here’s how much some areas could see:

  • Denver metro: 1 to 3 inches
  • Palmer Divide/Foothills: 3 to 6 inches
  • Mountains: 4 to 8

Be sure to check back for the most recent updates on expected snowfall.

Impact

There shouldn’t be as much impact since it will be warmer and lead to melting, but the Pinpoint Weather team said whenever there’s snow falling, there can be troubles on the road, especially in the mountains where the most amount of snow is expected…
