Source: Police shooting at hospital occurred during struggle over officer’s gun, death threat

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A police shooting inside Swedish hospital occurred after the officer removed the handcuffs from a car-theft suspect so the woman could undergo a medical procedure, 9NEWS Investigates has learned.

That woman, identified in court documents as 37-year-old Tara Studer, is recovering from gunshot wounds and is expected to face multiple criminal charges in both the suspected car theft and the incident involving the Cherry Hills Village police officer.

“It’s very dangerous when you have someone in custody and they’re handcuffed, and you take those handcuffs off – not in a secured environment like a jail,” said former Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock…
