DENVER (KDVR) — Strong winds are back in the forecast, with wind gusts expected to reach nearly 70 mph or even higher across Colorado on Thursday.
A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day was issued for Thursday due to high winds and fire danger across the Front Range. High wind and fire weather watches are in place, with a possibility for downed power lines and trees, as well as potential for a wildfire to spark.

Denver could see wind gusts over 20 mph, while other areas across Colorado are expected to see wind gusts double the speed.
Extreme winds expected in Colorado tomorrow
The Pinpoint Weather team expects the highest wind gusts to be anywhere from 60 to 90 mph.
The Pinpoint Weather team said high wind gusts will be in Conifer and Estes Park, with wind gusts expected to reach nearly 70 mph. The foothills could see even higher wind speeds, with extreme winds that could possibly reach 90 mph.

Denver County is currently under “extreme” drought conditions, which the county hasn’t seen since the Marshall Fire. The Pinpoint Weather team said these conditions could lead to rapid fire spread if there’s a spark.
