Leetsdale fire site now 2 weeks into demolition; developer signals plan to rebuild

DENVER (KDVR) — A four-story apartment building site at Leetsdale Drive is now in the early stages of demolition, more than three months after a major fire tore through the unfinished building and left nearby properties dealing with lasting damage.

Crews are currently about two weeks into an estimated eight-week demolition process, working to tear down what remains of the fire-damaged building piece by piece. That’s according to Jim Goaches with Alpine Demolition, who is working on the site.

The fire, which broke out earlier this year at the development site, was later determined by authorities to be arson. A man has been charged in connection with starting the blaze, facing multiple counts related to the incident.

While the building comes down, people working and living nearby said the impact has not gone away.

Just steps from the demolition site, Kohelet Synagogue continues to deal with ongoing disruptions. The building remains unoccupied and without basic utilities as repairs and assessments continue…
