If you drive south to Denver on Interstate 25, you might notice traffic going at a slower pace these days. It almost seems as if traffic even goes a little quicker, all the while driving slower on the interstate between Johnstown and Longmont. At least when I have driven anyway.
Why Traffic Feels Different on I-25 in Northern Colorado
The reason for traffic driving slower in both the north and southbound lanes on Interstate 25 between Berthoud and Mead is due to new speed cameras that have been installed in the construction zones.
The Colorado Department of Transportation installed the speed cameras in this construction zone and gave warnings from March 1 to April 1, 2026. Currently, anyone caught speeding in this zone will face a $75 fine.
How the Speed Camera System Works
What you may not know about these speed cameras is that the radar device is not instant. Rather, one speed camera captures your information, and the next does the same thing. The speed camera system measures a vehicle’s average speed from point A to point B. So just because you drive 65 miles per hour by one of the cameras, then go 10 miles per hour over the speed limit until you reach the next one, does not mean you’re not going to get busted for speeding…
